Mound No.3

Mound No.3 is a round burial mound 12m in diameter located at the east end of the ridge. At the bottom of this mound there is a square trapezoid tomb. The burial mound was constructed using part of this trapezoid tomb and its surrounding ditch. The burial facility is a horizontal hole type (yokoanashiki). The roof stones were removed in a later time period. The tomb has a total length of 5.7m, the burial chamber is 3.5m long, 1.7m wide at the back wall, and 2m wide at its widest.The entrance passage is 1.3m long.

The burial chamber’s usage is split between the west side and east side. On the east side, 2 flat-surfaced gravel stones spaced 2 meters apart acted as a stand for wooden coffins containing the deceased. The west side is a space to tidy away the remains and accompanying earthenware. Excavated items include; Sue pottery, Haji pottery, knives, arrowheads, and nails. Furthermore, a Heian period (late 9th century) wooden coffin was found in the north-easterly part of the tomb’s burial chamber. Like in mound No.1, this wooden coffin was built after the tomb’s floor was raised around 20cm and leveled.

3号墳

　尾根筋の東端に位置した径約12mの円墳である。本古墳の下部には古墳時代前期の方形台状墓(4号台状墓)が存在し、その墳丘と周溝を部分的に利用しながら墳丘の築造を行っている。埋葬施設は右片袖の横穴式石室である。天井石は後世の抜き取りのため存在しない。石室規模は全長5.7m、玄室長3.5m、同奥壁幅1.7m、同袖部幅2m、羨道部幅1.3mを測る。

　玄室部は東側と西側で使い分けている。東側は棺台となる上面の平らな礫石を約2mの間隔で2石ずつ置き、木棺等に納めた遺骸を埋納する場所であり、西側は先葬者とそれに伴う土器等を片付けるスペースとなっている。出土遺物は須恵器・土師器・刀子・鏃・釘などである。また、石室玄室部東北部から平安時代前期(9世紀後半～末)の木棺墓が検出されている。木棺墓は1号墳と同様に石室内全面に約20cmの厚みで土を入れ、かさ上げ整地した後、営まれている。
